But we still need your help...
This is the wish list of sports that the kids residing at Homeless Solutions' Transitional Housing Program would like to play.
In the United States, 21.47 million kids between the ages of 6 and 17 play team sports.
Why shouldn't these kids play too?
Your donations and support will help us to bring these children off of the sidelines and into the game.
Teams For Kids Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that seeks to provide the necessary funding to allow children from homeless and low-income families within the State of New Jersey to participate in recreational sports programs.
Teams For Kids was founded in 2014 by Abby Bauer when she was a sophomore in high school. Abby has been volunteering at Homeless Solutions, a homeless shelter and transitional housing facility in Morristown, New Jersey, for the past five years, running a program for the children residing at the shelter. Her personal favorite activity to do with the kids is making s'mores and playing kickball during the summer months. It was following a heated kickball game one summer night when a ten year old boy, Giovanni, approached Abby with his baseball glove and asked her if they could have a catch. After throwing the ball back and forth several times, Abby realized that Giovanni had a great arm and could catch well. When she asked him if he played on a Little League team, Giovanni said he wished he could. Giovanni's mom later explained that families at the shelter could not afford recreational sports for their kids because they needed to save money for rent and living expenses upon leaving the shelter. Recreational sports are considered luxury items for these kids. While Abby could no longer help Giovanni (he left the shelter several weeks later), she was determined to help other kids like him.
This was the beginning of Teams For Kids Foundation.
WHAT WE DO
Teams For Kids Foundation partners with New Jersey homeless shelters, youth sports organizations, and town recreational departments to provide underprivileged kids with the same opportunities to enjoy recreational team sports as children who are fortunate enough to afford such programs.
